Settling In (for
telarano)
Things haven't exactly settled down any back in New York since the Avengers managed to revert reality back to the way it had been before Thanos erased half of all existence. There's still so very much up in the air.
The Big Things are at least sorted. May's alive again, having been dusted for the last six months as well as Peter had. Really that's the only big thing that's sorted. They're living in a shelter at the moment. Like many New Yorkers Peter and his aunt found their home to have been taken over by another family during the time they were missing. Since there really were no legal rights for a deceased person especially to a piece of rental property there wasn't a whole lot to be done about it. They can't exactly kick out the new family living there, and nor did either Peter or May want to. Luckily some of their things were sent to local storage along with most of the Dusted to be stored for family members to claim.
It meant more than they could say to have some of Ben's things still among their belongings. Most of it's still in storage for the moment, while May tries to find them a new place to live in Queens. She's been working real close with the local charities ever since they got back. Really finding purpose among the non profits she's dealing with. Peter's glad one of them seems to be falling back into place easily.
He hasn't gone back to school yet. Tony Stark's funeral is about the only Thing he's drug himself out to attend. Most of his time is spent helping May look for affordable housing, or trying to take care of them as best he can. But he's feeling more himself today so when May says she'll be out late house-hunting Peter sends her off with a hug before PINpointing to the Nexus.
It's time to keep a promise he's made.
He swipes out a text to 'Spider-Bro'. Hey man, you free today?

Okay. Okay, maybe it was more like twenty minutes, but the bag of Mcdonald's in his hand, and the drinks in the other certainly explained what had taken him so long right?
"Hey Peter!" He plunked the drinks on the end table before he was shrugging off his backpack, flopping across the bed along with his friend. "I was feeling hungry and didn't know what you liked so I got us a bunch of stuff. And the ice cream machine was working for once so..."
Would he be presenting a pair of mcflurrys in m&m and oreo? No one judge him, this is why you don't make choices hungry. "Pick your poison."

"We're not gonna be able to sit still once we've demolished this. Sugar rush, incoming. T-minus...however long it takes to put all this away I guess." It's not going to take long with both of them settled onto the floor of their room. Oreos in fake ice cream? Oh my yes. Peter's honestly making grabby hands before he takes a big spoonful of the treat, humming with glee.
"It's been ages since I've had one of these things. Thanks for sharing, by the way."

"Nothing wrong with that! I was thinking I was gonna swing around the city back home, y'know do a patrol." He plunked himself to sit with Peter, fishing out sandwiches, nuggets, fries, and a ridiculous assortment of sauces because he had no clue what his Spider-Bro wanted. "Figure if you wanted you could come with? Things have been pretty mellow so it's a perfect night for some sight-seeing, and a good way to burn off a sugar high."
And it sounded nice to be able to have some time with Peter where they could goof off a little.

Let...let him just swallow real fast so he can talk.
"You want me...?" Bwuuuuuuh doing a patrol on someone else's world? Web swinging with a friend? That. That sounds like so much fun. He beams. "Heck yeah I want to go on patrols with you. I've got my suit and everything!"
no subject
Peter's not the only one chipmunking out at least, even if Miles has to take a moment to swallow his bite of burger before replying again, tone entirely pleased.
"Obviously! Who else would I wanna go sling some webs with?" He'd done it with his own universe's other spider heroes, and in the universe he now considered his home, but they were all adults, more like mentor figures, whereas Peter was more of a peer. And more importantly his friend. "It'll be great, we can scope out what's different and what's the same, I'm kinda curious to be fair. Like some alternate places are really similar and others are super wildly different it can get nuts."
no subject
"Good thing I came prepared then." First he's gonna finish stuffing his face because honestly this is the best meal he's had in weeks but then he's gonna change with practiced haste. "How many different worlds have you gone patrolling in anyway? You sound like you're a pro at this whole multiversal Spider business."
no subject
"I mean I've only technically patrolled here and back home. The whole multiverse thing was more 'we all scramble for survival and figure out how to beat the creepy spider-totem-eating family' than patrolling. Met a bunch of spider-men, women, hams, and otherwise though, so it wasn't all bad."
And it turned out alright in the end. With everything his bro had been through lately he was glad that particular danger hadn't spilled into his universe- he had more than enough on his plate as it was. But he seemed to be doing better now which just made Miles even happier to see.

The mask covers it all up no problem.
"Alright, normal clothes in the bag, suit on--" A check but his webshooters are all good to go. "Spider-Man is ready to roll." How different could another New York even be, really?
no subject
"Dude don't even worry it was super nuts even when I was dealing with it. Spiders-Man was um... kinda creepy though?" More than kinda but he helped so Miles was trying to not just shudder at the memory of him...them? As he was shrugging out of his street clothes, suit already on under them. Clothes stuffed in his own bag, empty Maccas bag pitched in the little wastebasket in the corner of the room, mask on, ready to go!
"Awesome! Come on, it's not too far from here." Out the window? Obviously! What was a little wall-crawling to the Spider-Bros?

Fear of heights is still very much a thing, but only past a certain height. Smaller buildings like this old thing aren't even worth registering concern about as Peter slips on out after Miles and follows him up the side of the building toward the roof. There's nothing quite like the freedom of letting sling a web and feeling it catch old to a taught yet flexible contact point he can swing from. A joy in bounding from building to building only this time-- he's following a friend.
"So where's this door dump us out at in your world?" Called out over the whistling of the wind as Peter takes a shorter web and tighter arc around a corner so he can catch up with Miles.

A beat, then in a bit of a much less uneasy tone. "Spider-Ma'am was pretty awesome though."
Heights are still terrifying, but this is no biggie. This is some three or four story buildings and Miles has gotten used to webbing around shorter obstacles without smacking into the ground. So he was able to better focus on how freeing it was. Especially with a friend to swing with. Not an ally, or a partner by convenience but an actual for-real friend.
"Not too far from the Academy," He was trying to keep in mind that this wasn't timed, wasn't a race. Not that they couldn't do that too later, but he wasn't trying to ditch Peter so he kept his path a bit wide and looping to give the other time to figure out which way he was swinging to follow suit. "Not a bad place for it, pretty quiet generally."
no subject
"A lady Spider? Ma'am makes it sound like she's older though. Guessing not our age, huh." But then, Peter Parker isn't exactly Special. He just happened to be unlucky in a supremely weird way. "She sounds like she was nice though. That's good."
The Academy...Some kind of a private school maybe. Peter chews on the inside of his cheek when he thinks of the trips they'd take for trivia bowl to some of the more well off schools around the state. It can't be helped though. He's proud of his inner city school.
"Well, sounds convenient. I'm right behind you--!" Thwip, thwip!

The plural is used for a reason. A horrible, horrible reason.
"Definitely older," Miles commented with a laugh. "Her Peter and Ben help her out, it's pretty cool. Make her webshooters and do recon while she's on patrol. Real nice lady. I think if you get the chance to meet her you'd like her."
It wasn't too much farther- Miles led the way, only dropping to pavement once they were close enough to the doorway. Better to walk through- if anyone was passing the little alleyway it was less likely they'd be noticed if they didn't suddenly come swinging in after all. "C'mon it's right through here."
Alley or not, it was obviously the better side of Brooklyn from the state of it. Still grubby like any alley would be but less graffiti or vandalism, less signs of trouble. Miles pointed up at the rooftop of one of the flanking buildings. "We can stow our bags up there. No one really goes up top except one dude who likes to read his paper up there in the morning."
no subject
Well, close by at least. Queens, this ain't. But the sounds and the smells and Everything about this place screams New York. Peter admittedly had been worrying over how different Miles' world would be but if he didn't know better...he'd say Miles brought him back to Peter's world. Well. Not the current day one. Things are more put together than that around here.
He's trying to stare at everything at once as he follows Miles through the alley before following that point up toward the building adjacent to them.
"Got it." It's well past early morning by now so they should be safe by that logic. Peter stops once he's vaulting over the roof though. Turns to give this city a once over. It's so weird, to feel like he Knows this place even though he's never been here before. The Big landmarks all look like they're in their proper spots at first glance.
"Once the rebuilding finishes...I'm not sure you could tell our worlds apart from right here."
no subject
Grateful for the distraction he climbs after his friend, giving the little rooftop a glance to make sure nothing is off. Pausing when he notices the other looking around the city proper.
"Yeah? That's kinda cool. Parts of the place get trashed pretty often- you get super villains showing up and wrecking things, but people have figured out how to patch things up after pretty well. Bet your world'll be back on it's feet before you know it."
Miles gave a light pat to the side of Peter's shoulder, making sure the other saw him toss his bag up on top of the roof access shed- if anyone came up top they wouldn't see the bags there.
"Got anywhere in particular you wanna check out first? Visitor's choice."
no subject
"You know..I'm not usually in this end of Brooklyn." Less muggings and drug dealers in these higher class neighborhoods. But they're only kind of here on business and Peter knows that. So he hops up onto the edge of the roof and turns back to give Miles a cheeky grin and tilt of his head.
"What's the best view you've got around here?"
no subject
He pointed out the building, not too far from where they were. "See that window there on the side closest to us, with the blue light on? That's my dorm room. If it's just me and a big dude with black hair that's Ganke, been best friends since we were kids. He knows about the whole spider deal with me. Skinny black dude with glasses is the other roommate and he's not in the know." Miles gave a shrug. "If you need to get hold of me and for some reason can't text me or whatever, that's the best place to start looking on a weekday."
"As far as views? Man, there's plenty. Come on!" It was easy enough to drop from the side of the building with an energetic woop! of noise, catching another building by webbing the corner to arc around it, trusting Peter would be able to follow. It wasn't a race (yet) so he wasn't going overly fast, just excited to be able to show Peter around.
Work absconded with me again am sorry T-T
Or...y'know...might want to hang out or something. Like this. Spider Bros. Nothing weird about that right? He's trying to commit that dorm room to memory. Grinning a bit under his mask at the idea of showing up just to see what Miles was up to. N..not that he would do that probably. Too risky.
"Good to know."
Wouldn't be a version of New York without the Views. Peter leaps off the rooftop after Miles and follows him round the corner far above the normal day to day traffic (cars and foot) playing out far far below them. It's a joy to be doing this and with a friend rather than alone. More fun than Peter can remember having following the other Spider-Man's lead and zipping through the skies. He can't be blamed for pulling himself up to a nearby building by his webbing only to push off it and dive down past Miles in a flip before swinging out again with a little excited whoop.
He's showing off but just a little.
